Water, Water, Everywhere!
Water, water, everywhere, and more we all should drink! Water comprises 60%-70% of the human body and is vital for many different functions, including acid-base balance, waste removal, regulating body temperature, and maintaining a healthy metabolism. The balance between water and electrolytes like sodium and potassium determines how most of our body systems function, especially nerves and muscles.
Being even slightly dehydrated can affect thinking, mood, and energy levels. Severe dehydration can be dangerous and even fatal. So how much water do we really need? The answer depends on the individual, but generally speaking we should drink enough so that we need to use the bathroom every 2-4 hours. All non-alcoholic beverages count towards our fluid needs, even caffeinated ones, but plain old water is the best choice. Foods that are high in water content like fruits and vegetables count too.
